Neurological Evaluation of EEG
A board certified neurologist will read your EEG and provide a written report.
What is involved in an EEG Evaluation?
Preparation includes having a good night sleep before the evaluation and eating a healthy meal that includes protien prior to arrival at the office. You are asked to wash your hair several times with a PH neutral shampoo and to not use any conditioner or hair treatments following. An EEG tracks and records brain wave patterns. The electrodes read the electrical impulses in the brain and send signals to a computer that records the results. The test involves having a cap places on your head that contains sensors that will read the electrical output of your brain. The data will be collected for 10 minutes with eyes open and 10 minutes with eyes closed.
Uses of a EEG Evaluation
An EEG is used to detect problems in the electrical activity of the brain that may be associated with certain brain disorders. The measurements given by an EEG are used to confirm or rule out various conditions, including: seizure disorders (such as epilepsy),head injury, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), brain tumor, memory problems, stroke, dementia.
Re-testing following intervention (medications or neurofeedback) recommended if initial evaluation revealed spike activity, to determine if spike activity normalized.
